Lenore E. A. Walker, Ed.D., is the author of 11 books including the now classic, The Battered Woman (1979), The Battered Woman Syndrome (1984/2000), Handbook of Feminist Therapy (1984) with Lynne Bravo Rosewater, Feminist Therapies (1988) with Mary Ann Dutton, The Male Batterer (1985) with Daniel Sonkin & Del Martin, Terrifying Love: Why Battered Women Kill and How Society Responds (1989), Handbook on Child Sexual Abuse (1988), Abused Women & Survivor Therapy (1994), and Introduction to Forensic Psychology: Clinical and Social Psychology Perspectives (2004). Her newest book, Finding Your Voice (2004), co-authored with 6 psychologists teaches women how to overcome the unrealistic demands society places them.

From the Publisher
In this remarkable new book, a team of highly credentialed psychologists shows women how to overcome unproductive, blameful thoughts and unrealistic expectations–the things they tell themselves about how their marriages, friendships, children, and careers should be. The book encourages women to counteract idealized images by using self talk to sort out where those "should" messages come from, isolate their own voices, and then take steps to meet their unique needs.
